A BRAVE six-year-old girl who survived a brain tumour has been shortlisted as a finalist for a top award

Lyra Cole from Highbridge hit number one in the Amazon downloads charts last year with her cover of the Christmas classic 'When A Child is Born'.

She recorded the song to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, which helped her when she had emergency surgery as a baby.

The six-year-old was just five months old when she underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour, which was the size of an orange, after being initially misdiagnosed with a virus.

Lyra has reached the selection stage out of about 50 nominations in the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons 2020 in the Young Hero category which is chosen by the public from around the UK.

Four finalists will be selected in each category and the winner will be announced in October and Falklands War hero Simon Weston chairs the judging panel.

Amplifon is a global leader in hearing care with around 200 clinics across the UK and Ireland.
