MOTORISTS travelling in Somerset this afternoon (Friday, August 28) have been facing some major delays due to the Bank Holiday weekend traffic.

There have been long hold-ups for drivers heading on the M5 Northbound in Somerset where there has been stop-start traffic between Junction 26 at Wellington and Junction 20 for Clevedon.

As of 6.15pm traffic conditions were returning to normal, however mid-afternoon travel time between the two junctions was reportedly 1 hour 50 minutes according to Highways England.

There were also reports of queues on the A38 Wellington Road between Bradford-on-Tone and Taunton, and delays on the A303 and A358 near Ilminster.

Motorists were also been facing jams in Bridgwater, with the problems exacerbated by roadworks in the town.

As of 4.50pm it was reportedly particularly slow going on Taunton Road, Broadway, Western Way and Bristol Road in Bridgwater.
