CYCLING duo, the Laden Lifeboat Lasses, paid a visit to Burnham-on-Sea on Tuesday (September 29).

Kate Bourn from Cornwall and Beth Barratt from Wiltshire have raised £3,200 so far for the RNLI and visited 92 RNLI lifeboat stations in the UK.

The pair started their journey at Poole Lifeboat Station on September 7 and are finishing the challenge today (September 30) in Minehead.

Burnham-on-Sea Lifeboat press officer Mike Lang said: “We congratulate them both for their resolve and determination to complete this project in the difficult times.

“Not only did they reach their target of £2,250, but exceeded it by more than £900. Their just giving page also makes interesting reading.”

The pair took their bikes and backpacks with them on their journey and stopped at campsites along the way.

“Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we were both furloughed, so we took the opportunity to take part in an adventure,” said Ms Bourn.

“We chose to support the RNLI with the aim to increase awareness of the charity and raise money for the volunteer lifeboat crews.

“It has given us a purpose, something to plan for, train for and challenge ourselves. RNLI volunteers are still out there risking their lives for us, so what is it to us to make ourselves a little vulnerable and try doing something that scares us?

“Thank you for anything that you can give to help this amazing charity. We are really grateful for your support – thank you for all the messages coming in, our bums and legs are grateful too.”
