WITH Christmas just around the corner - could you afford to splash out up to £30,000 for that perfect gift?

If so, then an upcoming auction at Charterhouse may have the perfect lot for you.

For going under the hammer in the firm's jewellery auction on November 5 and 6 is a large diamond solitaire ring.

Measuring in at a huge 5.4ct, the round brilliant cut diamond is set in 18ct gold.

Given to the owner by an admirer several years ago, and having been valued for insurance at a staggering £100,000, this whopping diamond ring is estimated at between £25,000 and £30,000.

“Diamonds are a man’s best friend when it comes to giving presents, at Christmas or in fact at any time of the year,” said auctioneer, Richard Bromell.

“Over the decades I have sold many a diamond to a client as a present and at this time of year there is plenty interest in buyers bidding for lots as presents for a loved one.”

Elsewhere in the jewellery auction, there are hundreds of items estimated from a more modest £100 for a cocktail ring, through to diamond stud earrings at £3,000 to £4,000, and a 14ct white gold and diamond line bracelet with over 20ct of diamonds for £15,000 to £17,000.

However, if jewellery is not your style, then Charterhouse has plenty of other lots to tempt you.

From a collection of walking sticks in Devon, there is a fine and important walking stick.

Presented to Friedrich Wilhelm Viktor Albrecht Von Preuben, later Kaiser Wilhelm II, on the occasion of his marriage in 1881, this walking stick, which has probably never been used for walking, is estimated at between £18,000 and £22,000.
