THE MAIL’S readers have their say on dozens of Northern MPs signing a letter to the Prime Minister calling on the Government to invest in towns and cities left crippled by the Covid 19 pandemic.

Alex Rayment said: “We are all about to be in a national lockdown anyway so what does it matter? How about asking the govt to actually learn from countries that have successfully contained or eliminated the virus? Since March we have been limping along from crisis to crisis repeating same mistakes again and again. Rather than reinventing the wheel look and learn from Taiwan, New Zealand, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand etc. Over one billion people are living without the virus, without lockdowns and under far less restrictions.”

Deb Lanyon said: “Demanding a road map out would be a better. Asking means they will just ignore the request. Yes, there is a virus, but we also have an economy. As people we need it to survive and without a strong economy, we have poverty, death, misery and much worse.”

Jonathan Davies said: “This isn’t rocket science. The way things are now it’s just going wrong way. We will end up with a full-on UK wide lockdown at this rate and if it’s left too late, we will be in full lockdown over Christmas. Action is needed now to bring cases down and hospital admissions from this virus or face Christmas lockdown as there will be no other option.”

Amelia Atkins said: “You’d have thought they would have thought about this earlier. It would make sure the community can survive and keep business running, not just open.”

Arnold Muse said: “It’s too late now.”
