THERE was a new confirmed case of Covid-19 every 10 minutes on average in the latest daily figures.

The county council area experienced 144 positive tests for the virus in the latest 24 hour period in figures just released on behalf of the Government.

Of those new confirmed cases, 25 were in Mendip, which has now recorded an overall total of 695 cases.

Sedgemoor had 36 new cases, taking its overall total to 1,320.

There were 26 positive tests in Somerset West and Taunton, where the total has risen to 1,307.

The biggest increase was in South Somerset, with a rise of 57, taking its overall total to 1,226.

The 144 new confirmed cases in Somerset mean there have been a total of 4,548 positive tests in the county council area.

The latest seven-day figures are Mendip 122 cases at a rate of 105.5 per 100,000 of population; Sedgemoor 215 cases at a rate of 175.5 per 100,000; SWT 160 cases at a rate of 103.1 per 100,000; South Somerset 261 cases at a rate of 155 per 100,000.
