A POPULAR shopkeeper has retired after 33 years of running a East Huntspill shop.

Keith Balch left Crown Stores on November 14 after more than three decades in the shop.

Over the years Keith has delivered newspapers whatever the weather over a large area including East Huntspill and Mark.

To pay tribute to Keith and thank him for his service a number of regular shoppers came together to cut a cake for him to celebrate.

Marion Newman, a villager who used the shop, said: "He has always been open to stocking products which we wanted and now milk, cheese, ham and papers, amongst other things, will have to be sourced from further afield.

"No longer can we just pop across the road for victuals and a chat. We wish him a long and happy retirement."
