TWO fire crews attended a fire at Carlisle's Carlton Clinic.

The incident happened lunchtime today, at the facility on Cumwhinton Drive.

Jose Robe, group nurse director, at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, said: “There was a small plastic shed fire in the courtyard at one of the wards at Carleton Clinic.

"Two units attended and the fire was extinguished rapidly.

"We would like to reassure everyone that this caused no disruption or safety issues for patients or to the delivery of our services.”

A spokesman for Carlisle East Fire Station said: "At approximately 12.20pm, appliances from Carlisle East and Carlisle West attended a property fire at Carleton Clinic, Carlisle.

"A thermal imaging camera and a short extension ladder were used to check the property internally for any fire spread, but thankfully there wasn’t any."

"The clinic provides a range of clinical services which include, adult long stay rehabilitation, psychiatric intensive care, mental health crisis services, community mental health services for people with a learning disability or autism.
