NEW NHS data has revealed which regions in England are coming out on top as the country continues the mass rollout of Covid vaccines.

NHS England published the first regional breakdown of coronavirus vaccinations administered on Thursday (14 Jan).

The data only revealed the total number of jabs among people aged under 80 or 80 and over.

The JPIMedia Data Unit combined this with population data for NHS regions to analyse how the rollout has fared in each part of the country.

Where have the most vaccines been administered?

Counting only first doses, the North East and Yorkshire comes out top, with 4,309 vaccines per 100,000 people, above the South West in second place with 4,175.

The North East and Yorkshire are also top when only those aged 80 or over are included – there have been 45,935 jabs per 100,000 people in this age group.

London and the East of England, meanwhile, have fallen to the back of the pack. The capital has vaccinated only 2,231 people per 100,000, placing it last out of the seven regions, or 30,622 per 100,000 80 and overs, for which it places 6th.

The East of England has vaccinated 29,238 per 100,000 of its over 80s, and 2,853 per 100,000 of its total population.
