A WOMAN in her 60s is due in court today (Monday) charged with the murder of an elderly man over the weekend.

Pebelope Jackson, 65, of Parsonage Road, Berrow, was arrested following the death of the 78-year-old on Saturday evening.

She is due to appear at Taunton Magistrates' Court today.

Police and paramedics were called to a bungalow in Parsonage Road at 9.15pm on Saturday, where the victim was severely injured.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jackson was arrested and remanded in custody.

A post-mortem was carried out yesterday and revealed he had died following a number of stab wounds.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but the victim is believed to be David Jackson.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "His family have been informed and are receiving support from a specialist family liaison officer at this difficult time.

"They have asked for their privacy to be respected."

A police cordon remains in place and police have thanked the community for their patience while their enquiries are carried out.

The spokesperson added: "We’d urge anyone with concerns about the incident to speak with the officers in the area and they will be happy to help.
