A WOMAN accused of murdering her husband is due to make a second court appearance today (Tuesday).

Penelope Jackson, 65, is accused of killing David Jackson, 78, at their home in Parsonage Road, Berrow, on Saturday evening.

Mrs Jackson, known locally as Penny, is due at Bristol Crown Court today following the listing of her case at Taunton Magistrates' Court yesterday.

It comes after police and paramedics were called to the retired couple's bungalow in Parsonage Road, where Mr Jackson died from a number of stab wounds.

Mrs Jackson, who went to Sexeys Grammar School and also studied at Weston College, used to work at the Ministry of Defence and is a former financial adviser to the UK Department for International Development.

Mr Jackson is believed to have been a senior officer in the Royal Logistics Corps and captain of Burnham and Berrow Golf Club.

The Daily Mail has quoted an unnamed neighbour saying: "They were the perfect neighbours.

"They were always friendly, didn't make a lot of noise and I literally never heard a raised voice or cross word between them.

"They loved gardening and were out there night and day, working away.

"I don't know what has happened. The first I heard was when the police and an ambulance arrived on Saturday. It is such a shame."

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "His (Mr Jackson's) family have been informed and are receiving support from a specialist family liaison officer at this difficult time.

"They have asked for their privacy to be respected."

A police cordon remains in place and police have thanked the community for their patience while their enquiries are carried out.

The spokesperson added: "We’d urge anyone with concerns about the incident to speak with the officers in the area and they will be happy to help.

"If you can help, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5221032125."
