THERE were just 42 positive Covid-19 tests in the whole of Somerset in the latest 24-hour period.

South Somerset and Mendip both had five new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, while there were 16 in both Somerset West and Taunton and Sedgemoor.

The overall total of confirmed cases in each district since the start of the pandemic now stand at 4,805 in South Somerset; 5,629 in SWT; 4,804 in Sedgemoor; and 3,130 in Mendip.

The overall total cases confirmed in the county council are is 18,368.

The latest rate of infection based on the seven-day rolling figures are 71.9 per 100,000 people in South Somerset (down from 73.7 the previous day); 113.5 in SWT (down from 122.5); 143.7 in Sedgemoor (down from 155.1); and 79.6 in Mendip (down from 81.3).

The total number of deaths of people for any reason within 28 days of testing positive for Covid is 140 in South Somerset; 183 in SWT; 142 in Sedgemoor; and 145 in Mendip. The county death toll stands at 610,
