THE latest daily Covid-19 figures show there were 30 positive tests in Somerset in a 24-hour period.

Of those new confirmed cases, eight were in South Somerset; four in Somerset West and Taunton; 13 in Sedgemoor; and five in Mendip.

The overall total of confirmed cases in each district since the start of the pandemic now stands at:

  • South Somerset 5,020;
  • SWT 5,802;
  • Sedgemoor 5,068;
  • Mendip 3,290.
  • The overall total for the county council area has risen to 19,180.

The latest infection rate based on the seven-day rolling figures are:

  • South Somerset 37.4 per 100,000 people (down from 40.4 the previous day);
  • SWT 38.7 (no change);
  • Sedgemoor 73.1 (up from 72.3);
  • Mendip 45.9 (down from 52.8).

Since the start of the pandemic, around 3.5 people per every 1,000 in Somerset are known to have had the coronavirus - based on Government figures showing 3,411.4 per 100,000 have tested positive for the infection. Many others will have had the virus without being tested.

The district figures are:

  • South Somerset 2,982 per 100,000;
  • SWT 3,740.5 per 100,000;
  • Sedgemoor 4,114.4 per 100,000 - that represents more than one in every 25 people;
  • Mendip 2,801.9 per 100,000.
