MORE than 255,000 Covid-19 vaccinations have been given to Somerset residents.

According to the latest figures released by NHS England yesterday (March 11), Somerset NHS Foundation Trust has nearly vaccinated all those over the age of 60.

So far, the figures for particular age groups are as follows:

  • 98.8 per cent of those aged 80 and over have received their first dose
  • 100 per cent of those aged 75 to 79
  • 98.9 per cent of those aged 70 to 74
  • 88 per cent of those aged 65 to 69
  • And 76.6 per cent of those aged 60 to 64

This means that 92.9 per cent of those aged 60+ in the Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group area (CCG) have received at least the first dose of their Covid-19 vaccine. This figure is the top 20, according to the percentages released for each CCG in England.

And now, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is inviting people aged 56 to 59 to book in for their jab.

"Somerset's vaccination programme has given over 255,000 vaccinations to residents in the highest priority groups," a spokesperson said.

"This is an incredible achievement, and each week we are amazed at how much this number climbs.

"Thank you to the people delivering this programme, and thank you to those who are coming in to get their vaccinations.

"We are now inviting people aged 56-59 to book your appointment at one of our large vaccination centres or pharmacy–led sites."

In the South West, 2,275,138 doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered.
