THE Covid-19 infection rate in Somerset has seen slight fluctuations in the latest figures.

Two districts saw their rates move upwards, with the other two shifting in the opposite direction.

The seven-day rolling figure in South Somerset gives the latest infection rate as 53.5 people per 100,000 of population, down from 56.4 yesterday.

Somerset West and Taunton moved up to 24.5 from 21.9.

Sedgemoor dipped to 39 from 43.8.

And Mendip crept up to 33.7 from 32.9.

There were 23 new confirmed cases in the county council area over the latest 24-hour period.

Of those, eight were in South Somerset, which has now recorded 5,207 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

SWT had two positive tests (overall total 5,866).

There were 12 new confirmed cases in Sedgemoor (overall total 5,166).

And the single case confirmed in Mendip means that district has seen 3,370 positive tests since the pandemic began.

Sadly, one person with Covid-19 died in South Somerset in the latest 24-hour period.

The death toll in each district is now South Somerset 149; SWT 201; Sedgemoor 154; and Mendip 161.
