THE Covid-19 infection rate has risen in three of the four Somerset districts and stayed static in the fourth in the latest Government figures.

South Somerset's rate rose to 52.9 people per 100,000 population according to the latest rolling seven-day figures - up from 51.1 per 100,000 on yesterday.

Somerset West and Taunton's rate remained unmoved on 14.8.

Sedgemoor's jumped to 74.7 from 65.8.

And Mendip's rose to 21.6 from 19.9.

South Somerset saw 27 new confirmed cases in the latest 24 hours, taking its total of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic to 5,327.

SWT had five positive tests (overall total 5,898).

Sedgemoor also had five new confirmed cases (total 5,262).

And Mendip had just one (total 3,403).

There were no deaths connected with Covid.

The district death tolls remain at 151 in South Somerset; 202 in SWT; 154 in Sedgemoor; and 161 in Mendip.
