Somerset County Gazette:

MINEHEAD’S Under-10 rugby players put in an excellent performance to win the Plate final at a tournament in Weston-super-Mare, this week in April 2011.

With the ground very hard, each game proved to be physically demanding on every player.

Minehead narrowly lost their first game, against tournament winners Keynsham, and that proved to be a wake-up call.

An outstanding display of forwards and backs interlinking gave them a 30-0 win over Taunton, which was followed by a 10-5 success against Old Bristolians.

In the Plate semi-finals the Minehead pack overpowered Nailsea, winning the match 10-5 to set up a decider with Chew.

Minehead broke the deadlock through Lewis Hercock touching down.

Chew fought back hard and scored a try of their own in the dying moments, but the Plate was Minehead’s by virtue of scoring first.

Minehead squad: Finn Reeson, Harry Hirst, Harvey Liddle, Ed Francis, Bertie Callandine, Alfie Martin, Jake Metcalf, Nathan Metcalf, Lewis Hercock, Lewis Murray, Tom Williams, Jacob Peters.
