THE public have been handed an opportunity to have their say on the future of a Cumbrian town.

Cumbria County Council has brought together local partners to create a "town team" for Penrith.

It includes representatives from Cumbria CVS (Cumbria Council for Voluntary Service) S, Cumbria County Council, Eden District Council, Penrith Town Council, Penrith Business Improvement District, Penrith Chamber of Trade, and Penrith Industrial Business Improvement District, who are working together to develop a ‘place vision’ for Penrith.

It is hoped the plan will attract new businesses, increase and retain the working age population, improve the environment of the town, deliver new jobs, and increase visitors.

A spokesman for Cumbria County Council said: "We want to use the new place vision to build local pride and confidence in the town, and to help us further develop Penrith as we reignite our economy following the Coronavirus pandemic.

"We want to hear what makes you proud about Penrith, how you feel about the area and how you might like it to develop in the future."

The partnership is hosting two virtual workshops with residents, organisations and businesses from Penrith using Zoom.

The first session will he held on Tuesday, May 25 from 9.30am until 11am, while the second will be the following day from 5pm until 7.30pm.

Anyone who is interested in attending must register via the county council's website. After registering, attendees will receive a confirmation email with further instructions. An online survey is running until May 28.
