A DISUSED vehicles sales showroom could be replaced by a development featuring a pharmacy, a children's nursery and a convenience store.
The proposals on the site of the former Land Rover premises on Bridgwater Road, Bathpool, would serve as community facilities for the expanding Monkton Heathfield community.
The group behind the plans have set up a website outlining their aims ahead of submitting a planning application to Somerset West and Taunton Council.
The plot has been vacant for a number of years after the Land Rover business was relocated to new premises in Priory Way, Taunton.
The website says: "A solution is therefore needed to provide the site with a new lease of life to benefit the local economy and the surrounding community.
"We are preparing a full planning application to provide a mix of community facilities at the former Land Rover site.
"The scheme includes a children’s nursery, a pharmacy and a ‘walk in’ convenience store to serve the Monkton Heathfield community.
"This new mix of community facilities would also generate employment opportunities for local people."
It adds that the proposals are still being finalised and may be subject to change ahead of a planning application being submitted.
The initial plans would see the convenience store operating seven days a week from 6am to 11pm; the pharmacy would open 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday; and the nursery would operate from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday.
