AN Avon and Somerset Police officer has been accused of "discreditable conduct" during a drunken night out in a pub.

The sergeant is said to have had a number of inappropriate conversations in front of more junior colleagues at the evening event he arranged.

It is claimed Sgt X made a number of indiscreet comments in the beer garden of the Weston-super-Mare pub.

During the evening he claimed to have taken drugs in his youth, disclosed private information, touched an officer without their permission and described sexual acts.

He has been named only as Sgt X ahead of a misconduct hearing scheduled for Monday, June 7, when he will answer accusations that he breached the standards of behaviour of the Police (Conduct) Regulations.

Sgt X is accused of:

  • having a number of conversations with and within the hearing of other police colleagues which were inappropriate;
  • speaking about taking drugs in his youth and suggested that other officers would have done the same;
  • touching another officer’s hair without their consent and taking a photograph of another officer without their permission;
  • disclosing private information to officers that he had been privy to and should not have shared;
  • having discussions with officers and asking questions of a highly sexualised nature which were unwarranted and inappropriate. These included him describing sexual acts;
  • making inappropriate comments to and about an officer’s mother.

The panel at the hearing will be asked to decide whether Sgt X's conduct amounted to "individually and/or cumulatively, gross misconduct".
