POLICE are investigating after a couple reported a masked man spying on them through a window of their Somerset home.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called to Claverham at just after midnight on September 1.

A spokesperson said they were 'unable to locate the man' and were keeping an open mind over the incident.

It comes after a man in a 'gimp suit' charged at a woman in the village in 2019.

One woman, who asked not to be named, told the BBC: “I’ve got older children and even my kids are saying ‘it’s the gimp man again’.

"They’re really freaked out by it.

“But it could be anyone and I want to come from a practical point of view and do something to help people feel safer.”

A village residents' group said it was planning to walk around the village in the evenings at night to reassure neighbours.

In 2019, two men, aged 28 and 34, were arrested on suspicion of indecency offences following the reports of a woman being approached by a man dressed in a 'gimp suit', but were later released due to insufficient evidence.

Now, police have increased patrols in the area.

Anyone with information or with dashcam or doorbell camera footage of a man in Claverham on Wednesday, September 1, wearing what has been described as a full face mask should contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
