A PRIMARY age boy has raised £1,000 lifesaving volunteer organisations through an eight-mile walk from Brean Down to Weston-super-Mare Pier.

The money raised by ten-year-old Lewis Thompson is being split between BARB Search and Rescue and the RNLI lifeboat stations in Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super Mare.

Lewis was accompanied on his walk in August by his grandfather Jeff Thomas.

They have now handed over the cheques.

Lewis has always had a keen interest in everything BARB Search and Rescue and the RNLI do.

He enjoys learning about their volunteer service and also watching them on training days as well as when on call outs.

Lewis, who hopes to one day become a volunteer with BARB, which operates two hovercraft.

For his efforts, he was presented with BARB and RNLI items, plus a certificate of thanks from Burnham-on-Sea RNLI Lifeboat Station.

Burnham RNLI lifeboat operations manager Matt Davies said: "Lewis has raised a fantastic amount of money for the RNLI. He is a credit to his family, and the local community."
