BUDDING Mary Berry food students at The King Alfred School Academy, Highbridge, were challenged by international food manufacturing company Bakkavor to make a new cheesecake design and flavour.

The judges praised all of the "outstanding" entries and the joint winners were Year 10 student Seth Barnshaw with a lavender and blackberry cheesecake and Year 11's Ellie Biddle, Korben Noble and Hoshi Speight, with a tequila rose Eton mess creation.

Runners up were Paige Batt and Elisha Holbrook with a chocolate orange deluxe flavour entry.

Judges included principal Dan Milford and staff from the Bakkavor production team John Bowman and Ann Clutterbuck.

They marked students on the quality of their presentation, their research into costings and packaging and attractiveness and taste.

Mr Milford said: “We saw some sensational cheesecakes being made which looked too good to eat.

”Students developed their ideas and designs in their own time and during after school sessions over six weeks.

"They also researched target markets, costings and packaging ideas. Well done to everyone involved.”
