THE owners of a popular Somerset bar have submitted an application for a new venture - a glamping site.

The Roberts family own and have run Krackers Bar, in Brean, which is currently about to be enlarged.

Now, according to a new planning application, they are seeking 'less stressful opportunities'.

And they have now lodged plans for a new tourist venture - and the development of a new home - at Honeymeade Farm, in Bridgwater Road, Lympsham.

The scheme would see a current barn converted as the family home, while pods for 12 'glamping pod' bases and two yurt bases would also be constructed on the site.

The application states: "Having run Krackers Bar for over 15 years, the Roberts have a good understanding of the Brean and Berrow tourist market and they have been watching the development of the Airbnb business in Brent Knoll.

"Many of the bar clients come to Brean as extended family groups and stay at the larger parks and sites.

"However, older family members have said they would prefer to be on a quieter site with better facilities.

"Therefore, the Roberts started to think about whether they could create a small site that was better than those in Brean."

The development of the barn would mean the family could live on the site, allowing them to stay on site 'to ensure guests follow the rules'.

"While the application is for 12 bases, they intend to start with five units plus the yurts," the application says.

"One of these will be used for running classes Pilates and Yoga have been the most popular. The other will be available for guest functions.

"Many of the potential guests have said they would be interested in a location where there was space for a family event but space for guests to stay in their own accommodation."

The application says the scheme would create a 'family-orientated' business and bring additional tourism to the area.

"It will be family orientated and if there is sufficient demand one of the yurts will also offer some child entertainment and indoor facilities if the weather is poor," it adds.
