A POPULAR carnival took place last week - but with a difference.

Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea's traditional carnival became a walking costume parade this year, as part of Sedgemoor Masquerade Week.

There were no carnival carts this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bradley Loveridge, chief marshal of Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea carnival, said: "It has been an interesting two years to say the least, but we have done it.

"As I write this I look back over the past few months and realise how little time we had to put this on.

"It may not have been a normal carnival, but on behalf of the committee I’d like to say a huge thanks to the spectators who came out to watch and to those who donated to the charities we support.

"Also to club members, marshals, emergency services staff and other volunteers who work to put this show on the road.

"We look forward to seeing you all next year on November 7 2022 for carnival as we remember it.

"Stay safe and have a great rest of the year."
