VISITORS headed to Highbridge on Saturday (November 27) to enjoy a festive light switch-on.

The Christmas lights were switched on by Mayor, Cllr Mike Facey.

During the event, there was a lantern parade from Bank Street car park to the community hall organised by arts group, Seed.

There was also carol singing, and a Christmas craft fair and craft market.

A spokesperson for Highbridge Memorial Trust said: "It was a bit of a rocky lead up to the event with Burnbridge FC having to pull out of the event due to ill health.

"Then the weather on the day saw many craft stalls pull out, but once tucked up against the building which provided a bit of cover we had a successful event.

"Father Christmas was a great hit and together with the refreshments and draw money the total amount raised was £429.72 - which is amazing really considering the weather was against us and we ended early so everyone could get home and into the warm.

"The trustees would like to thank all volunteers for their help on the day and especially CRS in Highbridge for a great donation."
