STUDENTS from the King Alfred School Academy cooked up a storm in a competition organised by Burnham-on-Sea's Rotary Club.

The judges gave the students two hours to prepare a healthy three-course meal for two people costing less than £20.

The students were judged on their menus, the health benefits of their food, and their costings.

Two students, Robert Dowell (year 10) and Poppy MacKay (year nine) have progressed the south west stage of the National Young Chef Competition, set to be held on March 12, after finishing in first and second place respectively.

Robert's impressive menu included honey barbecue chicken wings, hunter's chicken, and a poached pear.

Kieran Moore (year 10) and Ryan Brice and Jake Bartlett (both year nine) were also recognised for their hard work, planning, and execution of their three-course menus.

The competition was organised by the Rotary Club, David Stickles, and Bernard Raines.

The judging panel included school principal Dan Milford and local hotel owner Carol Chalmers.
