BURNHAM-on-Sea’s Princess Theatre Company has changed its name.

The company, often known as the PTC, is now called Peaty Sea Theatre.

“It's a bit of a pun on the old name,” chairman Oliver Hulme said.

“Someone said it as a joke, but we all liked it. It’s home-grown and fun, and we’ve since discovered there’s a layer of coastal peat in Burnham, so it fits.”

Formerly the resident company at the Princess Theatre, the group is keeping a close relationship with the Princess, whilst also spreading its wings.

Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News:

Founder Kim Cook said: “Over the years we’ve performed in several venues outside of the Princess, travelling as far and wide as Boscombe and Bath.”

The company performs exclusively new writing, penned by local authors.

Their latest play, The Journey, is about a self-help group.

Actor Lewis Coleman said: “It’s a comedy-drama, imagine Ricky Gervais’ Afterlife if they all went to therapy.”

Featuring secrets, lies, and lots of laughs, the anarchic comedy will be performed at the Princess Theatre on February 25 and 26 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from www.theprincesstheatre.co.uk or 01278 784464.
