THREE men from Somerset have been fined hundreds of pounds after being proved guilty of travelling on Great Western Railway (GWR) services without paying a fare.
They committed the offences in July and August and each received a £220 fine.
They were also ordered to pay compensation to GWR, court costs, and a surcharge to fund victim services.
All three men were proved guilty in their absence at North Somerset Magistrates’ Court on Friday, February 25.
Court documents say they “travelled on a railway, namely Great Western Railway, without having previously paid” their fare “and with intent to avoid payment thereof”.
They have until March 25 to pay their court bills.
Jake Bolt
On July 30, 23-year-old Jake Bolt, of Talbot Close, Highbridge, travelled on a GWR service in Bridgwater without paying a £7.90 fare.
Alongside his £220 fine, he was ordered to pay £7.90 in compensation to GWR, costs of £180, and a £34 surcharge, giving him a total balance of £441.90.
Jordan Tyler
Jordan Tyler, of Ganges Close, Fivehead, was fined after being caught travelling without paying a fare in Taunton on August 1.
Tyler, 25, must also pay £5.80 in compensation (the same amount as the fare he failed to pay), costs of £180, and a £34 surcharge, giving him a total of £439.80 to pay.
Jed Frank Warren
Jed Frank Warren, of Priory Avenue, Taunton, has been fined for travelling on the railway at Taunton without paying his £14.50 fare.
Warren, 35, was fined £220 and must pay compensation to GWR, costs of £180, and a surcharge of £34.
Warren’s total court bill is £448.50.
