HUNDREDS of people descended on Burnham-on-Street for a Platinum Jubilee street party and parade on Thursday, June 2.

The event was organised by Burnham Retail Group, a collection of the town's small businesses that aims to provide residents and tourists with a great shopping experience.

The Cake and Coronation party featured the crowning of Mary Nicholson, Burnham's own 'Coronation Queen'.

Mary was chosen after she was nominated by her daughter Naomi for her “wonderful community efforts” and for being a “pillar of the community”.

Her Coronation took place at 10:30am ahead of a day of performances and activities including circus acts, Cirque de Silk gymnasts, stilt walkers, living statues, jugglers, Punch and Judy, magicians, and live music.

After the event, a spokesperson for Burnham Retail Group wrote on Facebook: “Too exhausted to say anything but a massive thank you to all our visitors that came along to make this a most wonderful, wonderful day.

“We at Burnham Retail Group hope you had the best time and look forward to seeing you all real soon.”

They added: “We couldn’t be more proud of the efforts of the organisers, and supporters, of each of the events over these last few days - amazing work by everyone involved!

“Our combined success serves to prove that working together is the most effective way to take our wonderful little town forward.”
