The statue commemorates WW2 hero, Major Frank Foley. Described as ‘a true British hero’ Frank Foley was recognised for his bravery in helping thousands of Jews escape from pre-war Nazi Germany.

In 2005, a band of dedicated local volunteers who had been fund raising for over five years raised over £25,000 to have a permanent tribute to Frank Foley in his Somerset birthplace of Highbridge. The monies came from donations, coffee mornings, Jewish communities and the annual Frank Foley Fair.
