HOUSEBUILDER Taylor Wimpey has pledged its support to the historic Axbridge Pageant, which will take place this bank holiday weekend.

The pageant has been held once every ten years since 1967 and sees around 300 performers travel back in time to re-enact scenes from the town's history.

Vistors can expect to witness 15 breathtaking scenes featuring battles, riots, and high drama.

There will also be live music, horses and livestock displays, and a collection of vintage cars.

The festival was originally scheduled for 2020 but was delayed following the outbreak of the Covid pandemic.

Taylor Wimpey has donated over 12 tonnes of sand to the event, which will be used in Axbridge Square to make the cobbled surface safer for performers.

The housebuilder's Oak Park 96-home development is located in nearby Cheddar.

Rob Curry, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey Bristol, said: “We are really pleased to be able to support the Axbridge Pageant.

“The Pageant truly is a unique and exciting event and we are thrilled to be able to be involved.

“We hope all those attending and performing will have a great experience.”

Axbridge Pageant chairman Phil Saunders added: “The sand is a vital ingredient to make the square of modern cobbles safer for the performers and in particular the horses, hounds, dogs and sheep.

“We are so grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their important contribution."

The Axbridge Pageant will take place at 3pm daily from Saturday, August 27 to Monday, August 29 in the town square.
