Bristol Water fix leaking water main in Highbridge

Bristol Water are fixing the potable water main and have deployed a three-way traffic light system to allow them to complete the work on Burnham Road.

The puddle had caused some motorists to splash the pavement or drive in the other lane when there was no oncoming traffic to avoid going through it.

The company does not expect the water main to be switched off and said the leak should be repaired today.

However, the traffic lights could remain in place over the weekend to allow for road surface repairs.

At around 12pm, a Network Plus van was spotted with workers preparing to put the traffic management system in place.

A Bristol Water spokesperson said: “We’re currently on site to repair a leaking 8” potable water main which is located very close to the zebra crossing. We have deployed three way traffic lights to allow us to dig in this busy road.

“We’ll be completing the leak repair today but the traffic management may remain in place over the weekend to allow us to repair the road surface and fill in the excavation and apply fresh tar.

“At this time we do not expect to have to turn the water off, currently every customer is still in supply and we are monitoring the leak volume to ensure this stays this way.”
