THE owner of a Highbridge restaurant that won a national award said he will not put prices up despite the business struggling due to the cost-of-living crisis.

The Mint Bay restaurant won the British Curry Life Awards 2022 last week after a ceremony held in London on Sunday, October 9.

Owner Gias Uddin, who has been running the restaurant on Church Street for six months, said he “can’t put prices up, because otherwise, our customers will struggle”.

Mr Uddin also said the award put the restaurant on the map and it is also important for the town and its community.

He also added: “I am absolutely over the moon for winning this British Curry Life Award for Mint Bay.

“Winning the award also recognises my restaurant in Highbridge where we serve very top quality cuisine and puts us on the map of Highbridge, Somerset.

“The award is also important for the town, not just the business.”

Mr Uddin admitted that the recent cost-of-living crisis is having a big impact on his business, with bills going up.

He said: “We still want our business to grow more and more.

“At the moment, everything is going up, gas, electricity. We are struggling every week and we are not making profits.

“But we can’t put prices up, because otherwise our customers will struggle and I need to think about our customers, I try to make offers and discounts for them. I need to think about the customers and my staff.

“I can only thank my team and all my customers for this opportunity of winning.

“Without our customers, there would be no award. This curry award is for the community.”
