A SEA cadet from Burnham & Highbridge has been appointed to the role of Lord-Lieutenant's cadet by Mrs Annie Maw, the King's Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset.

Mrs Maw appointed five cadets from Somerset to the role on Monday, October 10.

Burnham & Highbridge leading cadet Philippa has been appointed to the role alongside two members of the Combined Cadet Force, an Army cadet, and one RAF air cadet.

LC Philippa's role will last for 12 months, at which point she will hand over her responsibilities to another exceptional cadet.

With King Charles III's Coronation scheduled for May 6, 2023, it is likely Philippa will be very busy assisting Mrs Maw until her retirement at the end of October.

Philippa will then assist Mrs Maw's successor, Mr Mohammad Saddiq DL.

Nominations for the roles were coordinated by Wessex Reserve Forces and the Cadet Association.

The successful candidates were then personally appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant.

LC Philippa's investiture ceremony was held at Dillington House in Ilminster.

Lt (SCC) Dom Gregory RNR, commanding officer of Burnham-on-Sea & Highbridge Sea Cadets, said: “Leading cadet Philippa’s appointment is incredibly well-deserved.

“I can’t think of a cadet who sets a bar so high for herself and consistently meets and exceeds those personal goals.

“It’s that tenacity and determination to succeed that is being rewarded with this prestigious appointment.”

Leading cadet Philippa said: “I received the email advising me about the appointment whilst flying back from Scotland after my Cadet Drill Instructor’s Course and couldn’t finish reading the email before landing back in Bristol.

“I didn’t know what to think. It's an astonishing opportunity and I had no idea I’d been nominated.”

LC Philippa has succeeded former LC Will Leader, who is now a petty officer. Will finished at the Lord-Lieutenant's cadet 24 hours before Philippa's appointment.
