CLEVEDON firefighters were called to reports of a lorry that had overturned on the M5 in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, November 22).

The crews from both trucks based at Clevedon Fire Station discovered the vehicle on its side on the southbound carriageway following the callout at 2.55am.

Fortunately, the driver was unhurt, although he needed help to get out of the cab of his stricken lorry.

Also assisting in the rescue operation were firefighters from Avonmouth, Highways South West, the South Western Anbulance Service and the road safety team from Avon and Somerset Police.

A tweet from Clevedon Fire Station said: "22/11 @ 0255: Both trucks mobilised to reports of an HGV on its side on the M5 Southbound.

"Luckily the driver was unharmed & just needed assistance getting down from the cab."
