VISITORS coming to Burnham-on-Sea for tonight's highly-anticipated Christmas lights switch-on will be able to park for free from 4pm.

The lights will be turned on at 6pm (November 26) after a day packed with activities and things to watch, ranging from fire eaters to Punch and Judy shows.

The lights will be switched on by Maxine and Nick Bashford, who were nominated in recognition of their work at Burnham Foodbank.

Sedgemoor District Council is waiving charges in its Bridgwater and Burnham-on-Sea car parks to support both towns' festive activities.

It will also be offering free parking at its Burnham sites on four Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas.

A spokesperson said: "To support both of these events, we are waiving car parking charges in our Bridgwater and Burnham-on-Sea car parks from 4pm.

"Please plan ahead as there will be some road closures throughout the day to allow these events to happen safely. We just hope the weather doesn't spoil these events.

"In the lead-up to Christmas, we will also be offering free parking in all of our car parks on December 3, 10, 17 and 24."
