A NEW series of fortnightly health walks are set to launch in Highbridge on Thursday, January 19. 

The new walks have been introduced after the success of health walks in Burnham-on-Sea.

Run by Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership by co-ordinator Georgina Hainsby, the  free-of-charge walks will begin at the Highbridge YMCA Purple Spoon Cafe.

Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP) is dedicated to increasing the health and happiness of residents in Somerset through physical activity and sport.

A spokesperson from SASP said: "Gentle walks will talk place being centered around health and well-being.

"In January we have launched three brand new walks in the Sedgemoor area and it complements the already existing health walks.

"We are really pleased to be launching one in Highbridge, and our mission is that everyone in Somerset can access, free, friendly, short group walk with an easy reach of where they live to help them become active."

Walkers are invited to gather at 10:15am for a 10:30am start on Thursday, January 19.

SASP estimates that around 10-20 walkers will be participating in this. 

The spokesperson said: “The walks are open to all and will last approximately 40-60 minutes with a walk along the River Brue, around Apex Park and back to the Purple Spoon Cafe.

“If you are interested, just turn up on the day.”
