In response, committee member Barry Walsh praised the Trust for securing the carnival's future.

He said: "This is fantastic news, and we are so grateful to the Thatchers Foundation Trust who have helped to secure the future of the carnival.

"Now we can look forward to another wonderful afternoon in September when the whole town turns out to celebrate our community."

The Axbridge Blackberry Carnival, taking place on September 21, has been a significant event alongside the annual fun fair in the town square.

The procession starting at 2pm from Cheddar Road moves through West Street before returning to The Square.

With walking entries, vintage tractors, classic cars, and decorated floats, the family event is anticipated by both participants and spectators in the locality.

The committee received an additional anonymous donation from an Axbridge family who wished to contribute to the cause.

They said: "We wanted to make a donation to the carnival as it’s been hit financially by all the increased costs but is a lovely community event.

"It’s important to support the dedicated team of volunteers who work so hard to bring so much joy to the town."

The donations will no doubt provide a significant boost towards staging the September event.
