THE Low Lighthouse, perhaps one of Somerset's most iconic landmarks, in Burnham-on-Sea, has featured in a unique new book.

Legendary Lighthouses of Britain, written and illustrated by Roger O’Reilly, showcases Britain’s top 100 lighthouses.

Each of the top 100, including the Low Lighthouse, is narrated and illustrated in the book, with retro travel-poster style art by the award-winning artist.

The book is full of ghost stories, sea legends, and tales of survival in the face of nature’s power - as well as lots of historical info about the lighthouses featured.

Other interesting lighthouses featured include Souter on the Sunderland coast, reputed to be haunted by Grace Darling’s niece Isabella, who lived here in the late 1880s.

Ardnamurchan in the far west of Scotland, is so remote that its builders came down with scurvy, and fresh fruit and vegetables along with a doctor had to be shipped out to help them.

Legendary Lighthouses of Britain released earlier this month, and is now available for £25.
