THE Labour Party has gained a seat on the Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council.
Labour Councillor Kate Pearce will fill the vacant spot on the Highbridge Ward which was left by the resignation of Cllr James Warren earlier this year, and in turn triggered a by-election.
Just one vote split the Liberal Democrat and Conservative candidates, but it was Ms Pearce of the Labour Party who came out on top by a margin of 91 votes.
The full results for the Highbridge by-election are as follows.
- Laura Isabelle Chalmers (Lib Dem): 657
- Martin John George (Conservative): 658
- Kate Pearce (Labour): 749
The result was announced this morning at the Canalside Conference Centre in Bridgwater, where the count to elect the constituency's next MP is also taking place.
