SEVERAL coastguard rescue teams were tasked with assisting the fire service to help a person who was stuck in the mud this weekend.
On Sunday, August 11, coastguard crews from Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-super-Mare, and Clevedon, rushed to Uphill Beach.
Arriving on scene, two fire service workers were already with the casualty to make sure they were okay.
They found that the person had misjudged the outgoing tide while sailing their inflatable catamaran, and was stranded on the mud.
A spokesperson for Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Our team deployed two Mud Rescue Technicians pulling full mud rescue kit on stretchers over a length of around 350 metres.
"After assessing the situation, it was decided to collapse the sail of the catamaran and load it onto the stretchers to be pulled back using our winch.
"The person who had been sailing was loaded into the BARB Search & Rescue - Burnham-on-Sea hovercraft and returned to the safety of the beach and their concerned family.
"The mud techs were then winched back safely complete with the inflatable catamaran.
"A very good multi team and agency working incident on one of the hottest days of the year that also included a fly from a vintage Lancaster bomber.
"If you have an emergency along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
