A former Avon and Somerset Police sergeant faces a misconduct hearing following a team social event.

Edward Ryan is accused of breaching the Standards of Professional Behaviour for police officers.

The hearing in public is scheduled to take place at the force’s headquarters in Portishead next Monday (November 2) at 10am.

Ryan is alleged to have breached the standards of authority, respect and courtesy; and discreditable conduct.

A notice ahead of the hearing says: “It is alleged that in April 2024, whilst off duty, PS Ryan attended a team social event.

“During this event, the officer behaved in a discriminatory manner.

“It is contended that (if proven) the allegations amount to gross misconduct.”
