The efforts of dozens of community champions in Somerset have been recognised.

The Chairman’s Service to the Community Awards, hosted by Somerset Council chair Cllr Mike Best at Taunton Rugby Club, recognised individuals and organisations nominated by city, town, and parish councils from across the county.

A total of 49 nominations were received this year.

Cllr Best said: “These awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognise and thank people who give their time and energy to their communities across Somerset.

“So much of what they do happens quietly and without expectation of recognition, but their contribution makes a real difference to the places in which they live.”

The awards include both individual and group recipients, with a special award presented to Somerset’s three Members of Youth Parliament and their advisory group.

This award recognised the efforts of young people representing the county and supporting the work of the Youth Parliament.

Cllr Best said: “It was a privilege to celebrate so many of them and to hear about the contribution they make.

“I would like to congratulate all of this year’s recipients and thank them for everything they do for Somerset.”

In addition to the main ceremony, Cllr Best is making 12 separate presentations to recipients who were unable to attend the event.

These awards are being presented in their local communities, with the first already given to Jane Monk at a Compton Pauncefoot parish meeting.

Other community presentations will be made to residents and groups in Misterton, Ash, East Brent, Williton, Sparkford, Minehead, Halse, Rode, Chapel Allerton, Watchet, and Old Cleeve.

The full list of award winners includes individuals and organisations from across Somerset, each recognised for their outstanding voluntary work and community spirit.

The awards highlight the vital role played by volunteers in supporting and strengthening communities throughout the county.
