EACH and every Carnival talented young dancers from the Lucy Gunter Dance and Theatre Arts Centre in Highbridge promise to come back bigger and better…and they are certainly living up to their pledge.

Three different age groups from the dance school performed to the thousands lining Burnham and Highbridge's streets on Monday night under one entry.

Leading the way were the youngest performers, aged between seven and 12, dancing the samba. They were followed by a group of girls aged up to 18 performing a funky street dance, and completing the trio was another troupe of up to 18-year-olds with a Strictly Come Dancing style routine.

Principal Lucy Gunter told the Weekly News her aim is to improve on each year's performance, and after scooping second place in the Anything Goes category, she has good reason to believe she and her team are doing just that.

Lucy said: “We all thoroughly enjoyed the carnival this year and we went to a lot of effort with the routines and costumes.

“I said last year we would be back bigger and better and I definitely think we were, so I will say it again this year.”

She also believes the younger girls, many of whom were performing in Carnival for the first time, thrived on the electric atmosphere.

“There was a real buzz and energy and all the girls really fed off it and didn't stop dancing all night long”, she added.

“For me Carnival just gets better each year and I absolutely love it - I just can't wait for next year now!”
