THE Covid infection rate in one Somerset district is higher than the England average.
And the three other districts in the county are only just below the overall rate in the country.
The latest figures show the rates per 100,000 of population are:
MENDIP: 375.8.
SEDGEMOOR: 327.3.
SOMERSET WEST AND TAUNTON: 319.8.
SOUTH SOMERSET: 317.1.
Those figures, whi hare on the rise, compare to the England average of 354.2.
Over the latest seven days the number of positive cases confirmed in the Somerset districts are:
SOUTH SOMERSET: 535.
SWT: 497.
MENDIP: 437.
SEDGEMOOR: 404.
More than 30,000 people in Somerset have had at least one positive Covid test since the start of the pandemic.
The breakdown of total cases, with the rate per 100,000 people in brackets, is as follows:
SOUTH SOMERSET: 11,828 cases (7,011.4 per 100,000).
SWT: 11,459 (7,372.9).
MENDIP: 8,184 (7,037.7).
The number of people becoming seriously ill or dying as a result of the virus has dropped considerably due to the success of the vaccination programme.
