The Met Office has issued a weather warning for dense fog covering large parts of Somerset.

The warning includes Taunton, Bridgwater, Highbridge, Burnham, Ilminster, Glastonbury, Somerton along with towns and villages between.

The yellow weather warning for fog is in place from 10pm this evening until 12 noon tomorrow.

The Met Office website states: "Dense fog patches likely to cause some travel disruption overnight and during Wednesday morning."

Fog weather warning – travel disruption expected

The official definition of fog is a visibility of less than 1,000 m. According to the Highway Code headlights should be used when visibility is below 100 metres so before setting off on a foggy journey, drivers should ensure lights, especially fog lights, are in good working order.

The Met Office warn to expect disruption to travel, including:

  • Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible
  • A chance of delays or cancellations to flights
