AROUND one in eight drivers pulled over by police on the M5 during a special operation were committing offences, according to Avon and Somerset Police.

Officers from the force's roads policing unit checked a total of 293 vehicles on the motorway in Somerset over a number of days as part of its Operation Tramline initiative.

Of those, 37 were committing offences.

Police say they made one arrest for drug driving.

Other offences were 26 people not wearing seatbelts; two using their mobile phones, one driving without due care; two with load security issues; two speeding; and three for 'construction and use' breaches.
