Huntspill & District 125 lost to Westlands II 129-5 by five wickets
A BELOW par batting display saw Huntspill & District slump to a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Westlands on Saturday.
Jake Randall was the only Huntspill batsman to get to grips with the wicket, top scoring with 38 – but he lacked support of any substance as the hosts were bowled out for just 125 inside 40 overs.
After an early wobble, Westlands eventually cruised to their target in just 29 overs, despite 3-22 from CJ Organ.
Sam Lillycrop was the first to depart in the Huntspill innings as he was dismissed by C White (3-25) without troubling the scorers.
Tippetts (12) and Cavill (16) weren’t far behind – and when Matt Counsell fell for just 6, the hosts were in all sorts of trouble.
Randall (38) struck a flurry of well-timed boundaries, but wickets were tumbling at the other end, with R Reeves (5-48) doing the majority of the damage.
The innings eventually closed on 125 all out, well below par.
The new ball partnership of Organ and Counsell made early inroads to give Huntspill a sniff of sneaking something from the game.
But C White (41) and M Dyer (52) put any hopes they may have had to bed with a solid 100-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Both batsman fell just short of victory, but N Hallam (7no) and B Hurlock (7no) saw Westlands over the line.
