Sedgemoor Two
Burnham 1 Winscombe IV 1
BURNHAM did enough to win this match comfortably, but just could not convert any more of the numerous chances they created.
They started well and went ahead early on with a beautiful team goal.
Chelsea Fisher started the move from left centre back switching the ball across to the right through Nicky Glanville and Sarah Johnson, to Imogen Wright who sent Louise Peace racing down the wing.
Peace beat several defenders to reach the by line before pulling her cross back perfectly to Carly Bush who was waiting on the penalty spot to sweep into the goal.
Peace and Wright went onto have excellent games as the blues excelled down their right throughout.
Bush could have doubled hers and Burnham’s tally when she burst strongly into the D but fired wide.
In the second-half Jessie Woodbury intercepted a pass and ran half the length of the pitch, beating both defenders and the goalkeeper but shooting agonisingly wide of the post.
Ellie Bishop almost got on the end of another cross from Peace before Bush just failed to connect with a raking pass from Johnson.
Tracey Dunn saw her shot from a short corner well saved and her dribble into the D minutes later found Bush, whose shot was blocked on the line.
Winscombe stole a point and made Burnham pay for failing to make the game safe with a late equaliser.
This was harsh on goalkeeper Sian Kelly who saved the first effort but could do nothing about the rebound.
Player of the match, was Imogen Wright.
Burnham play Somerset Gryphons in a friendly at home on Saturday – 10am.
